Challenge
Residents of a contemporary apartment in Canary Wharf were facing a significant invasion of privacy due to the construction of new apartments in close proximity. The expansive glass windows, while offering panoramic views of the London skyline, had become a privacy concern:
Privacy Intrusion: With the new developments, residents felt exposed, especially during evening hours when interior lights made the apartment like a fishbowl.
Heat and Glare: Along with privacy issues, there was an increased heat gain and glare from the sun, which was magnified by the surrounding glass structures.
Solution
To tackle these challenges, especially the pressing issue of privacy, the Dual Reflective 20 window film was proposed and installed for the following reasons:
Optimised Privacy: The film’s higher exterior reflectivity created a mirror-like appearance from the outside, deterring prying eyes during the day without sacrificing the view from the inside.
Night-time Privacy: The lower interior reflectivity reduced the “fishbowl” effect at night, giving residents a sense of seclusion.
UV and Glare Reduction: The film effectively cut down on UV exposure and glare, protecting both the residents’ comfort and the apartment’s interior.
The installation was executed with minimal disruption to the residents, seamlessly integrating with the apartment’s sleek design.
Results
Restored Privacy: The residents reported a significant improvement in their sense of privacy during the day and felt more comfortable during the night.
Maintained Views: Despite the increased privacy, the stunning views of Canary Wharf remained unobstructed, allowing residents to enjoy the urban landscape without feeling exposed.
Comfortable Living Environment: Glare was greatly reduced, and the apartment maintained a more consistent and comfortable temperature, leading to a decrease in air conditioning use.
